Vintage Hankie Baby Quilt

I ran across this tutorial and just had to give it a try. I think it's so sweet! It is a small blanket for a new baby made with vintage sheets and vintage hankies. I just happened to have those items on hand. It only took a few hours.

Here is a closer view of one of the 4 blocks:

I tied in the center of each hankie square with embroidery cotton, and the "batting" used between the layers of the blanket is a scrap of white terry cloth I had laying around.

I love it when I can make something almost "free."

  2. Hello,
I haven't stopped by in a while. Merry Christmas.
I didn't get a green house yet (my gardening year was a big flop with a new baby and my husband in England all summer). But I'm about to finish my second spindle cop ever on a hand spindle. And I made some castile soap, :), for the holidays. And I'm planning on adding in a milk goat this summer.

Merry Christmas, you seem healthy and well.

  3. Thank you, Elie. Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! The garden will still be there. Babies can't wait. Your other projects and plans sound wonderful! :)

  5. I've been collecting hankies for such a long time - since the mid. 80's. I've been wanting to do a quilt forever now. Funny, when I originally started collecting it wasn't a project that everyone was doing, now it's everywhere! I really need to get busy! LOL It's a sweet blanket - great job!
