I think I'm going to die of cuteness...

Can you guess what we did today?

I think you get the idea.  I have read that Buff Orphingtons are calm and affectionate, good layers of large brown eggs and cold tolerant.  Precisely what I need (and want.)  We haven't had chickens for several years and I am very happy!  My husband is going to build a chicken coop soon.  :)

The other cuteness is living in our garage right now.  4 baby goats.  3 girls, one boy, all spoken for.  They are SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo cute!  I love bottle feeding baby goats!  Half LaMancha and half pigmy.

  1. We loved our Buffs. The breed we are in love with right now are Buckeyes. They take longer to mature but are big beautiful birds that love attention.

Your babies are too cute! We have three little Nubians right now, two doelings and a buckling. Do you bottle feed because you want/sell all the milk? We haven't milk goats yet but with our jersey calves we milk share, milking only in the morning. We are hoping to do that with our goats so we don't have to bottle feed again.

  2. Here are the reasons we bottle feed ~

    1. I find that if I can whisk the babies away while momma is still consumed with the need to lick and clean everything up, she doesn't even notice, so when we sell them later, she is not bereaved.

    2. We keep them for milk, and if I leave the kids with the does, they drink much more milk and so we don't get very much!

    3. Bottle-fed babies are much easier to deal with, since they bond to humans.

    4. We take the place of the babies, in a way, in the mother's heart. When you milk an animal, you get into their emotional life.

I will have to look up Buckeyes. I've never heard of that breed of chickens.

That is so nice about your jerseys!

  4. I wish the girls could be there. They would LOVE the baby chicks and the goats.
