Don't laugh, please - the tinniest tip ever...

See that little bowl there?  It's sitting in the corner of my kitchen sink and it has some small slivers of bar soap in it.  I keep that there, instead of liquid soap or a whole bar of soap.  You know, if you use bar soap, you always end up with odd little bits and then comes the moral dilemma... do I throw it away? (Gasp!)  Do I save them up and melt them into new soap bars? (Ugh.)  No!  I use them to wash my hands at the kitchen sink.  It's so simple to just reach into that little bowl, take out a piece and soap up my hands and then put it back in the bowl.

Ok.  Go ahead and laugh.  But it makes me happy.  :)

  3. I used to use a bar until it was enough of a sliver to have sort of sharp edges, then I wet a new bar and the old bar, and stuck the one to the other, pressing firmly till they were good and stuck. Then we were good to go as usual. I have since changed to liquid hand soaps and shower gels because they don't leave soap scum...makes cleaning so much easier.

    1. I do that exact thing with the shampoo bars I make. DH uses it all the time, and it's pretty precious, so I don't want to waste any of it. I understand about the soap scum. When we first moved into this trailer, our water softener was not in business for a number of months and the soap scum clogged up drains! But now that DH has it operational again, that problem has cleared up. Without soft water though... it was not fun.

    2. Great tip! I do what kath001 does and it works pretty well, I love my homemade shampoo bars too but it does make a huge difference to have softened water. When our softener when out - eek! velcro hair!
