Onion harvest

Ordinarily, when it is time to harvest onions, I just pull them up and hang them over the fence. Ordinarily, the tops start to dry up and fall over before I do that. This year has been so wet and hot that the tops were starting to get a little slimy, and it's too wet to hang them over the fence, so I went ahead and pulled them up and laid them out in the greenhouse to dry today. I hope it works. That would be a LOT of onions to waste! Aren't they beautiful?

  1. I want to plant onions this year. How do you start them? With seeds or with starts? I've done green onions before, that's easy, they grow back from their root end even if you've pulled them out of the ground!

  2. They are beautiful. I have not harvested one thing from my garden or greenhouse. This has not been my year. I wont give up though.
I am happy for you and hope they dry out just fine.

debbieo ~ I'm so sorry your garden has not done well. It is sad to see your hard work go for nothing. I hope next year will be much better! Has the weather been unusual?
